Armadale Line: Star Metal Delivers Metalwork Package for Major Government Projects

In 2025, Star Metal was proud to partner with leading contractors BUILT and CDI Group to deliver a comprehensive package of fabricated metalwork for the Armadale Line Upgrade — a major Western Australian Government transport infrastructure project.

Spanning five key train stations — Beckenham, Cannington, Queens Park, Oats Street, and Carlisle — this large-scale project required precision, durability, and total compliance with transport and safety regulations.

Working across multiple sites and contractors, our in-house drafting, fabrication, and installation teams collaborated closely to meet tight schedules and high standards. The result is a cohesive, secure, and visually unified metalwork system that enhances functionality and elevates the passenger experience at each location.

Scope of Works Delivered:

  • Welded stainless steel safety handrails throughout platforms and access areas

  • Industrial security gates for bike shelters and restricted access zones

  • Modular emergency exit balustrades, built for fast installation and long-term durability

  • Perforated metal void balustrading around escalators and elevated walkways

  • Custom perforated pedestrian gates for controlled station access

All components were custom-fabricated in our Perth workshop and installed by Star Metal’s team.

Built to Last — Stainless Steel for Strength and Style

All our safety handrails are available in high-grade stainless steel, offering exceptional durability, strength, and corrosion resistance. Stainless steel is the ideal choice for high-traffic public infrastructure, combining long-term performance with a clean, architectural finish.

  • Highly resistant to corrosion, even in exposed or coastal environments

  • Low maintenance and easy to clean, with no need for coatings or finishes

  • Modern aesthetic that complements both contemporary and heritage designs

Perfect for train stations, access ramps, and commercial settings, Star Metal's stainless steel handrails are built to perform — and built to impress.

Built to Meet Australian Standards

All Star Metal staircases are designed and fabricated to meet Australian Building Standards, ensuring safety, durability, and compliance. Our designs follow the National Construction Code (NCC) and AS 1657, which govern key features such as:

  • Minimum tread and riser dimensions for safe footing

  • Consistent step height and depth

  • Slip-resistant surfaces for outdoor safety

  • Adequate headroom and landing spacing

  • Handrails and guardrails to meet access and mobility codes

These standards ensure our custom-fabricated staircases are not only built to last but also provide safe and compliant access in all conditions, from commercial buildings to critical public infrastructure.

Perforated Sheet Metal Barriers for Escalator Voids

To provide both safety and visual continuity around escalator openings, Star Metal fabricated and installed custom perforated sheet metal barriers. These barriers are engineered to meet Australian fall prevention and safety standards while also serving as a sleek, low-maintenance architectural feature. The perforated design allows for airflow and visibility, reducing visual bulk while maintaining full compliance for public infrastructure. Ideal for transport hubs and high-traffic areas, this solution balances form and function, keeping passengers safe without compromising on design.

Star Metal is trusted by WA’s top contractors for complex infrastructure projects.
